Niagara County Showed Up!
Last weekend, Niagara County Democrats hit the pavement! A dozen of us knocked doors in Lockport, chatting with neighbors about this November's ballot. Over in North Tonawanda, just as many volunteers turned out Saturday, and even with Sunday's rain, we had folks out knocking.
If you were one of them: thank you! If you weren't, we hope you’ll join us soon. Niagara Falls is starting their canvasses next weekend, so it’s easier than ever to jump in. We’ll have groups out knocking doors every weekend until Election Day and these candidates need your support!
Candidate Spotlight
This week we're introducing two more names on your ballot: the people running for county legislature. This is the group that sets your property tax rate, controls the budget for the sheriff's department and county jail, and funds the local Medicaid and SNAP office. These are decisions that touch our lives more than most people realize. Meet Matt Chavez and Jeff Elder below.
Matt Chavez, County Legislature District 3
Matt is a community advocate with a Master's in Urban Planning. He also has years of experience turning vacant and abandoned properties back into homes across Niagara Falls. He's running on government transparency and accountable budgeting for the city's aging infrastructure.
Jeffrey Elder, County Legislature District 4 (Minority Leader)
Jeffrey spent 26 years in the Air Force, including time as a crewmember on Air Force One under two presidents. After the military: the Pentagon, FEMA, the State Department, DHS. In 2021 he unseated a 10-year incumbent, and he now leads the Legislature's Democratic minority. He calls himself a common-sense Democrat and has worked across the aisle to lower county gas costs.

Annual Steak & Ale Picnic
Niagara County Democrats biggest fundraiser of the year, the Steak & Ale Picnic, is in a week and a half! Join us THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 10th at the Town of Niagara Veteran’s Memorial Park to enjoy steak, baked potato, corn, ice cream, and a space full of the volunteers and candidates working for a better Niagara County. Spread the word and make sure to get your ticket!
