Saturday's Meet the Candidates on Canal Street gathered nine Democrat endorsed candidates who spent the afternoon talking with neighbors and answering questions- seven of them pictured below. Thanks to everyone who turned out!

Candidate Spotlight
This week we're introducing two more names on your ballot: Bryan "Nels" Thompson and Carla Speranza, both running for county legislature. Meet them below.
Bryan "Nels" Thompson, County Legislature District 11
Nels served as a Russian linguist in the Navy starting in 1987, later commissioned as a Cryptologic Officer, with postings in Japan and at Fort Meade. He's worked in telecommunications since 1998. Today he's a husband and father, as well as an active volunteer with Stand Up Lockport and SURJ, endorsed by CWA. He’s dedicated to protecting taxpayers and ratepayers, ending favoritism in county decisions, and keeping ICE out of county government.
Carla Speranza, County Legislature District 12 (incumbent)
Carla won this seat in 2023 in a close, recount-triggering race against Republican Will Collins, then held it again in 2025 when he tried for a comeback. On the Legislature, she serves on Economic Development, Community Services, and Soil and Water, and has helped secure funding for local nonprofits including the Kenan Center and the PB&J Drive. Ask around and you'll hear the same thing: she goes out of her way to help constituents get the programs and assistance they're already eligible for.

Canvassing is happening all weekend too- Lockport, Niagara Falls, and North Tonawanda, Saturday and Sunday. Sign up for a shift.
