Candidate Spotlight
This week we're introducing two more county legislature candidates: Johnny Parks and Sam Farruggia. This is the body that sets your property tax rate, runs the sheriff's department and county jail, and runs the local Medicaid and SNAP office- decisions that shape daily life here more than people often realize. Meet them below.
Johnny Parks, County Legislature District 5
Johnny Parks
Johnny's spent 14 years in the Town of Niagara and two years on its Town Council, where he sits on the town's advisory and police reform committees. He's been involved in local youth programs for decades, including 25 years coaching youth football with the Niagara Wheatfield Amateur Athletes, and helped secure funding for the Legends Court basketball courts in Niagara Falls. He's running to replace outgoing Minority Leader Chris Robins.
Sam Farruggia, County Legislature District 6
Sam Farruggia
Sam's a lifelong Niagara Falls guy- grew up in the same neighborhoods he now represents, went to Niagara Catholic, then earned a science degree at SUNY Niagara and a microbiology degree at the University of South Florida before coming home to build his family here. He's a Niagara Falls firefighter, and in 2025 he made his first run for office and flipped this seat from Republican control. He talks about the job in family terms- protecting kids, protecting neighbors, keeping people safe.

Steak & Ale is Thursday, Sept 10, at Town of Niagara Veteran's Memorial Park. Steak, baked potato, corn, ice cream, and a room full of the volunteers and candidates showing up for a better Niagara County. Get your ticket before they're gone.
